‘Superman’ Takes Flight on HBO Max This Week

Soon, there’ll be no need to leave the Fortress of Solitude or even your couch to stream James Gunn‘s Superman: it’s arriving on HBO Max this Friday, September 19. It arrives on HBO linear the next day, September 20, starting at 8 p.m. ET.

The DC Studios blockbuster will also be available in an American Sign Language version, an HBO Max exclusive.

Comic-book movie fans will get an enhanced experience on the HBO Max platform to celebrate Superman‘s arrival. Look out for a Daily Planet “homepage takeover” spotlighting not just characters from Superman but also other familiar faces across the Warner Bros. catalogue; there will also be a “Fortress of Solitude page with themed curations” and “hidden portals throughout the homepage that transport users to Lex Luthor’s pocket prison.”

All this fanfare clearly signals Warner Bros.’ excitement over Gunn’s newly revamped DC universe, which includes HBO Max’s current second season of Peacemaker as well as upcoming theatrical features Supergirl (due in 2026) and 2027’s Man of Tomorrow, which Gunn recently revealed will bring back odd couple Lex Luthor and Superman for a new adventure.

Superman stars David Corenswet as the title hero, as well as Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. The rest of the cast includes Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, María Gabriela de Faría, Wendell Pierce Alan Tudyk, Pruitt Taylor Vince, and Neva Howell. Milly Alcock also pops up in a cameo as Supergirl.
